Bird City Alumni Reunion – Bird City – Memorial Weekend (Saturday)
An annual tradition where Bird City High School alumni gather to reconnect. Always held on the Saturday of Memorial Weekend.
Spruce Up Bird City – June Join Bird City Century II Development Foundation for a community clean-up day. Volunteers meet at the Bird City Welcome Sign (Highway 36 & Bird Ave) at 8:00 a.m. Bring your own gardening supplies—we’ll weed, plant, and freshen up the town together.
Color the Town – Bird City & McDonald – Early July Kids (and kids at heart!) help decorate sidewalks and paint windows to get ready for the July 4th celebrations. Meet in front of the McDonald Grocery Store or at Bird City Century II at 9:00 a.m. Chalk provided!
Bird City / McDonald 4th of July Celebration – July 3 (McDonald) & July 4 (Bird City) Two days of patriotic fun! Family-friendly activities, parades, and games capped off with Bird City’s fireworks display on the evening of July 4. Tri-State Antique Engine & Thresher Show – Bird City – Last Thursday–Saturday in July Since 1953, this three-day show has celebrated early farming and homesteading heritage. Held at the Thresher grounds (Hwy 36 & Road 29).

Thresher Fun Run – Bird City – Saturday of Thresher Show Weekend A family-friendly race with 1-mile, 2-mile, and 5K courses. Runners, walkers, and stroller-pushers welcome! Race begins at 8:00 a.m. on the Thresher grounds.
US Highway 36 Treasure Hunt – Third Weekend in September A 400-mile garage/yard sale stretching across Kansas. Bird City hosts multiple sales and provides a local map for participants. Maps are available at www.ushwy36.com as the date approaches.
Fall Mule & Draft Horse Show – Bird City – October Held at the Thresher grounds, this fall tradition showcases farming demonstrations using horsepower. A unique way to enjoy crisp fall weather and rural heritage.
Bird City Match Day – November/December (Giving Tuesday) On National Giving Tuesday, the Bird City Century II Development Foundation matches all donations to benefit local nonprofits and community projects. A powerful way to double your impact!
Santa Day – Bird City – December A favorite holiday tradition featuring lunch, gift giveaways, prize drawings for all ages, and of course, a visit from Santa himself.
Kansas Day Celebration – Bird City – January 29 Since 1930, Bird City has celebrated Kansas’ birthday with programs, displays, and a community potluck.
Cheyenne County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge – February Middle and high school students from Cheylin and St. Francis showcase their business ideas at the annual Entrepreneurship Challenge. Alternating between the Bird City and St. Francis communities, open to the public. Inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs!
