How to Give

Giving Is Easier Than You Think — Become a Partner in Possibility

Every person has the power to create positive changes in our community. When you give—whether it’s a small gift, a tribute to someone special, or the start of a new fund, you become part of something bigger: a legacy of generosity that strengthens the community through the Bird City Century II Development Foundation.

Getting started is simple — follow these easy steps:
  1. Say “Yes” to Making an Impact
Decide you want to support a cause that matters to you. One choice can shape the future of your community.

  2. Choose Your Gift — Any Gift Makes a Difference
Give what feels right for you: a cash gift, crop, life insurance, IRA distributions, estate gifts, and more. There are options for everyone.

  3. Give Your Way
Work with us to direct your gift exactly where you want it to go—add to an existing fund or create a brand-new fund or scholarship in your name or in honor of someone you love.

  4. Choose a  TYPE of Fund

  • Give When It Works Best for You
With help from your financial or legal advisor, you can plan your gift at the ideal time to maximize both your impact and your benefits.

Ways to Give: Benefits of Charitable Giving

Year-End Tax Planning If you've received a large bonus, consider establishing a charitable fund through your local community foundation. You can take an immediate tax deduction while making a meaningful investment back into your community.

Retire Comfortably While Giving Back If you want to support causes you care about but still need dependable income, a Charitable Gift Annuity may be ideal. It provides steady income for life, and when you’re gone, the remainder supports the charities you choose. You can even structure it to provide income for both you and your spo`use.

Reduce or Avoid Estate Taxes You can preserve more of your estate by incorporating charitable giving into your financial plan. A charitable bequest to a community foundation can reduce your taxable estate while directing your legacy toward causes that matter to you.

Maximize the Value of Your IRA/401(k) For substantial retirement accounts, the community foundation can help you determine the most tax-efficient way to distribute your assets—reducing taxes and allowing more to go to both your heirs and charitable priorities.

Considering a Private Foundation If you want the impact of a private foundation without complexity or expense, a donor-advised fund at the community foundation is a simpler, cost-efficient alternative. You’ll still enjoy flexibility and involvement in your giving—without the administrative burden.

Donate Closely Held or Appreciated Stock You can contribute appreciated stock to a donor-advised fund or planned gift and potentially receive a deduction equal to its fair market value, while minimizing capital gains tax.

Selling Highly Appreciated Stock If a charity isn’t equipped to accept stock directly, you can give appreciated stock to a fund at the community foundation. You receive a full market value deduction, avoid capital gains taxes, and direct the proceeds to your chosen charities.

Strategic, High-Impact Giving Community foundations offer extensive knowledge of local needs and programs. By partnering with them, you can ensure your philanthropy is strategic, meaningful, and aligned with what you care about most.
