Bird City Century II Development Foundation

In this time of decreased government support and growing needs within our community, the Bird City Century II Development Foundation is a community foundation that can bring generous donors and worthy causes together in the Bird City community.

The Bird City Century II Development Foundation was founded in 1985 with remaining funds from the centennial celebration earlier that year.

Funds of the Foundation

You are invited to join the tradition of extraordinary generosity by adding your legacy to those of others who realize the importance of a permanent community endowment.

Anyone can make a gift of any size to the Foundation. Gifts may take the form of bequests, charitable remainder trusts, appreciated assets, gifts of retirement plans, life insurance, or other types of planned gifts.

Many people set aside a certain dollar amount; others leave a percentage of their estate, or any assets left over after family needs are met.

Community Initiative Fund  - The Community Initiative Fund is an unrestricted endowment fund from which the Foundation Board of Directors makes its general and strategic grants each year.

Cheylin Schools Foundation Fund - Schools across the state are affected by State funding cuts, and many communities in Northwest Kansas are closing down part of their schools and operating out of less buildings to make these cuts, while other schools are facing the possibility of closing their doors entirely. To ensure the future of Cheylin Schools, the Cheylin Schools Foundation has been established to accept endowed and pass-through funds. Pass-through funds will be available to the school for immediate use, while the income from endowed funds will be available to the school for many years to come.

Catherine Domsch
Executive Director

After acquiring her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fort Hays State University, Catherine began grant proposal writing and working with non-profits, and became interested in community foundations and the impact they can have on rural development.

Catherine began working for the Bird City Century II Development Foundation as the Foundation’s first Executive Director in August 2004. The current focus of the Foundation is community and economic development for Bird City. Catherine believes rural communities, where people learn to appreciate life and have a good work ethic, are an essential part of “real life”.

Catherine is a board member of the Kansas Association of Community Foundations and Chair of the Kansas Commission on Rural Policy. The Commission is charged with developing recommendations for community based programming and funding in the following key areas: fostering leadership; encouraging wealth retention; developing entrepreneurship through coordination of existing programs; and retaining youth in rural communities.

Catherine and her husband, Kirk, have one daughter,
Kierstyn, 9; she enjoys spending time working and playing outdoors with family and friends.
